Spring sports

Spring sports are in full swing.  Competitions kicked off over spring break. Savannah offers baseball, golf, soccer, tennis and track in the spring, and has high hopes for all those teams.

The Savannah Savage Baseball Team is the reigning District Champions and are hoping to continue that streak. This year there are six seniors on the team: Truman Bodenhausen, Ethan Dudeck, Aiden Herrod, Ashton Kincaid, Hunter Orr and Bryce Stanley. The Savages are currently, as of March 24, 3-3 this season, and are hoping to get some more wins this week.

“I think we kind of got off to a rough start but it’s early in the season and I think we are going to start winning a lot of games once we clean up the simple mistakes we’ve been making,” Bodenhausen said

Come out and support these boys as they play at home this Friday, March 31, against Chillicothe.

The boys golf team is up to par for their 2020-2023 season. Mr. Brant Melvin and Mr. Kholby Barnes have been working with these boys in order to get them ready for this season.

“There's definitely going to be some ups and downs but you have to believe you can and I believe these boys can,” Coach Mr. Melvin said.

They played two matches over spring break, coming in third at both, with scores improving in the second match.

The Savages are led by four seniors this year: Landen Berger, Corbin Bowen, Peyton Larison and Joey Sigrist. Feel free to support this Wednesday, March 29, at 3:30 for their home match held on the Duncan Hills Golf Course.

Savannah is setting many goals for the 2022-2023 girls soccer season. The school is very excited to see this “fresh” team with over 20 plus freshmen going out this year. There are around 10 returning varsity players who are excited to help these youngins become Savannah Savage soccer players.

The team currently has an 0-2 regular season record, but both games were played over spring break while missing multiple players. Before the regular season they played in the jamboree, tying one game with Excelsior Springs and winning 2-0 against Grand View.

They are being led by three seniors this year: Camryn Higer, Alysia Rosario and Kaytee Ziegler. Come support your Lady Savage Soccer Team at their home game this week, Thursday, March 30 at 4:30 p.m.

The Savage Boys Tennis Team is in full swing for this spring season. So far they have played two matches and are 1-1. They won against Maryville over spring break, 6-3. They are still trying to figure out the rankings for the rest of the season, but so far it looks good, returning nearly all their varsity roster from last season.

There are four seniors playing this year, including Braydon Dickmeyer, Evan Heftye, Jack Knorr and Karson Shirrell. The seniors are looking to continue off of last season’s successes.

“It’s going good so far and I have really high hopes for how the remainder of this season is going to go,” Heftye said.

Good luck to our boys tennis players this year!

The Savage Track Team has had three meets so far in this season and have had many top finishers. There are three senior boys: Zaine Holmes, Aaron Mendoza and Ashten Sonnenmoser. There are seven senior girls: Naroa Alvarez De Eulate, Grace Barton, Sailor Bodenhausen, Sydnie Clark, Lara del Arco, Virginia Marinelli and Danica Rodriguez.

“I’m super excited for track season. I love running and hanging out with my friends at meets! I hope to get a new PR this season in the 100,” Clark said

Their next meet is Monday, April 3, at East Buchanan.

Make sure to come out and show your support for all the spring athletes.
