The first ever Girls Swim Team season has come to an end with Makenzie Kurre making a giant splash at State, with a first place and a third place win, making history at Savannah High School. Her teammates were all very proud and supported her the entire season. No matter if her teammates did or didn't win, she supported them and congratulated them no matter what. Makenzie has been said to support her teammates' accomplishment even more so than she celebrates herself and her wins. “She is super encouraging to the whole team; even if we aren't happy with one of our races, she is really enthusiastic and points out good things about it,” sophomore Abby Caraway said. She is very humble and encouraging. During the season, she is an inspiration to all the other swimmers whether she is encouraging in the pool during practice or a race or in every day life. She values hard work and tries to motivate others to work hard as well. “She definitely sets the bar really high but my favorite thing about her is how positive and humble she always is,” Caraway said. Makenzie tries her best and works hard. Her coaches, Ms. Mary Fraizer and Mrs. Diane Gould, are very proud of her and her hard work during practices. Makenzie puts in the extra effort, and would go to the pool and get two hours of swimming in before practice even started. This shows through her achievements of receiving third in her 200-freestyle race with a finals time of 1:54.77, and winning first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.55. Her coaches are ready to see all she does in the years to come and think very highly of her. They have seen her achieve so much during the season in the pool and out. “Makenzie is an exceptionally hard working young lady who has the potential both in and out of the pool to do amazing things,” Coach Gould said. Her coaches would like for her to always know she is special and a very wonderful young woman. As much as she encourages others, her teammates and coaches encouraged her and helped her through the entire season. “We both want her to know she is way better than she thinks, and that we are so incredibly proud of her. There are going to be many little girls looking up to her over at least the next few years and she is going to be a fantastic role model for them,” Coach Gould said. Both of her coaches are very proud of her and so are her teammates and they all cannot wait for her to make an even bigger splash next year. Savannah High School is delighted with her for pushing the limits and making history. Make sure to congratulate Makenzie, and celebrate her and her hard work.

Senior Parents and Guardians: The Savannah High School Yearbook Staff recently sent out a mailing with regards to senior ads. We want to let you know that we are still dedicated to creating the best yearbook possible for your graduating seniors. We will still include the senior ad section in our yearbook. Due to the changes we have experienced, we will be extending the first deadline that was originally set for Friday, April 3, to Friday, April 17. After April 17 the price will increase, and we will continue to accept ads until May 8. You are still able to mail everything to the Savannah High School Office or you can email me the pictures you would like used and the form. "Dear Sophomore and Senior Parents & Students, Due to the school being closed for the time being, we have been working with Jostens on alternative ways to get your Jostens orders delivered to you. Jostens has offered to provide a "Drive Through" delivery service for our school. They are going to be in our school parking lot Wednesday, April 1st from 11:00 am - 1:00 PM only, to deliver your class jewelry. If you are paid in full, then all you need to do is show up and receive your items. If you still owe money, then you can pay online ahead of time at their website: https://orders.jostens.com/viewLogin.mvc You will need your user ID and passcode that is located on your invoice. If you have lost that information, please email us at korte.office@jostens.com and we can send it to you. You can also pay your balance at the delivery with Cash, Money Order or Debit/Credit Card. This will be your only opportunity to pick up your class jewelry from them in person without having to pay to have them shipped, so please make the proper arrangements to be there. Due to the recent closure of the schools and district facilities and all activities the NHS blood drive on March 24th has been canceled.

I will be sending out an email and phone message with information regarding at-home learning opportunities for all SHS students Monday afternoon, 3/23/2020. Please know that we are continuously working to make the best of this very difficult situation. I know that many students and parents have questions. Our district leaders and our building leadership team are working to find answers to these difficult questions. As we have more information to share it will be made available as soon as possible. Ms. Westfall's and Mrs. Pollard's classes wrote and made cards to the Marines. Mrs. Pollard's Marine daughter sent these pictures back. The excitement of the Marines with the cards is pretty cool. #SHSProud

Mr. Jeff Urbin, an education specialist with the FDR Library and Museum gave a presentation to the US History classes today on the Great Depression and the New Deal.

You are invited to donate blood to help the NHS with their blood drive on March 24th.

The DECA Showcase was held March 5th, recognizing students who competed at DECA districts 2020.

There is now a Second Harvest Barrel at Brother's Market and all donations stay in the Savannah School District. Please think about donating the next time you are there.
