Sr3 Families and Community Members,
There has been an uptick in social media threats against schools across the country. This week, several schools right here in Missouri are being affected. This morning, there were reports that Savannah schools were mentioned in TikTok and Snapchat posts that threatened school violence. While we do not believe these threats to be credible, we take every report seriously. We are working with local law enforcement to continue investigations and increase police presence across our campuses.
These incidents understandably cause stress for students, families, and staff and disrupt the learning environment. We appreciate the quick and thorough work of our administrators and law enforcement partners in investigating these threats. We ask that, when appropriate, you talk to your students about the seriousness of making threats—whether on social media, in conversation, or even as writing on a bathroom wall. Every threat carries serious legal and disciplinary consequences, and our district follows all protocols with the support of local authorities, including the Savannah PD, Andrew County Sheriff’s Dept., and the juvenile office.
Please remind your student to report any concerning posts or communications to school staff or police immediately. Encouraging prompt reporting helps us maintain a safe and proactive school environment. If you or your child encounter a social media threat, do not share or forward it. Instead, take a screenshot and report it to school administrators or the police to aid the investigation. Sharing the post can delay the process by making it harder to trace its origin.
We urge you not to seek answers on social media and to help stop the spread of rumors. If you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to us directly. Our commitment to the safety of our SR3 students and staff remains unwavering: we will continue doing everything in our power to keep our students and staff safe.
